If you need to use earbuds, headphones, or microphones on a computer that only has a USB port, then this adapter will really come in handy.

On one end of the adapter is a standard USB port.  On the other is a typical round headphone jack.  Connect your earbuds, headphones, or microphones to the round jack and connect the USB port to your computer.  That's it.
